The Black Keys- Tighten Up (frame by frame remake evaluation)

For my groups frame by frame remake practical we decided to chose the song "Tighten Up" by the American Rock duo, The Black Keys. This was the first time we have ever had to reproduce and replicate someone else's work and as began to take down each frame in our shot list we realised how much work goes into a music video. Obviously we would not be able to remake the whole video frame by frame so we chose 1 minute of the video that we thought we would be able to most effectively replicate which turned out to be the last minute of the video, starting at 3:00. The screen shot shown below is of our shot list, and in the one minute of this video we saw a total of 40 different shots which has taught us how much work goes into a music video, and for my groups final piece to be successful and look like a progressional music video we will have to put in this much effort and work.

Due to the lack of resources and the unfortunate weather we had to improvise and make decisive decisions in order for to be able to pull the video off. After our decision to use this music video we began with out shot list and then decided on the location we would use which was a park approximately a 10 minute walk away from our college. Due to the weather though we had to find a suitable location indoors, which we were able to do quickly ensuring us enough time to film. Another problem that we had to resolve was the lack of props such as a guitar and drums, but we came to the decision that it would be best to just play air guitar and air drums so that we could focus on getting our shots together and have enough time to edit it as we had a limited amount of time, so running around trying to get instruments that we weren't sure we could even borrow wasn't an option for us. Some of the shots seen in our remake were also the result of us being able to improvise with the resources that were available to us. The shot at 0:25 of the girls hair blowing is a result of me picking up a laminated fire safety poster and having to wave it to produce the wind. That same laminated poster was used as the drum symbol shown hitting the guitarist at 0:46. We also used paint brushes as drumsticks and the camera bag as a drum for when the guitarist hits the drummer. Although we did have a limited amount of time to get everything together, this frame by frame remake has taught me that planning is vital in order to make a successful video and all of the elements such as misc-en-scene are extremely important. However i do believe we did improvised successfully and as this was a practical that was allowing to get a feel and understand how much effort is need for a music video i believe we have been fairly successful in our attempts to replicate the video we chose.
