Target audience research

For part of my groups target audience research we decided to first, mind map who we thought who would be the main audience for our chosen song, and then conduct a interview with three random people about three different songs which including our chosen song. After our initial thoughts were put down on a mind map on who would be the main audience for our chosen song, No Tomorrow by Orson we concluded that the audience would consist of 15-30 years olds being mainly male and belong to the urban tribes, trendie and indie kids. Because the song is fairly up beat we concluded that the main audience who would listen to this song would participate in out door activies, attend concerts and spend lots of time with friends.

After the mind map was finished and we got the information that we needed, we decided to undertake a video interview with three willing participants. We wanted to include two females in our video to see if their feedback would agree with our thoughts that this song would have a male dominated audience. We included three songs in the interview including the song we including our own song we intend to use for our music video. The other two songs were included to see if the participants knew about typical conventions that are used in music videos based on what genre the song is, and also for the final question when we asked the participants which of the 3 songs would you want to listen to, and if one picked "No Tomorrow" that would give us an incite on who the target audience is. As they showed that they did know typical conventions, the feedback that we got back on our song we will use can provide us with a great incite into how we should make the video. When asked about the target audience for "No Tomorrow" the consensus we got was that it would be a male populated audience that range from mid teens to late 20s. From this we now know what we could include in our music video from using humour and band performance, whilst avoiding a love story narrative.

The second question that we asked our participants was "What you would expect to see in the video" and the feedback gave us some great ideas for different concepts and what sort of things we could involve in our production. Two of the participants said that they would expect to see performance in the video, as well as one of them saying with narrative included. The other participant said their should be "fast editing to the beat". This feedback gave us some great ideas of what we could include in our music video, and from linking the target audience, the ideas that we produced from the interview was a video that was fast paced in accordance with the song, humorous for the target audience and also a mixture of performance and narrative.
